COMMUNICATION BETWEEN ANIMALS
![]() |
Ming and Talya are our hosts and they will who you what they wrote on their diary when they went on a trip around the world investigating about how animals communicate with each others. Their investigation was about elephants, chimpanzees, bees, dolphins, and geese. At the end of their trip they had some time left so they explain also what happened in the tsunami with the animals.

Dear diary, in our trip to the Netherlands, today we investigated geese, we
found a goose which was flying above us and suddenly it started to move it wings
faster. Geese communicate with one another with calls which depend on the intensity
and frequency. We also heard a loud call which came from a lost goose that we
found, it look so aggravated and afraid so he made a louder call. We also found
a large goose from which we learned that the bigger the goose, the slower and
deeper it's call is. These animals are so clever! Some other types of communication
are the body posture and actions. The call may be related to the body posture
and actions and sometimes it is important to understand the call to recreate
the posture. This was an amazing trip! -Ming and Talya
Dear diary, after we looked for dolphins, when we came
to the surface we were in a floral camp where there were many bees and there
was this amazing bee. Bees communicate with each other by a dance called the
bee dance or the wiggle dance. When they have found a flower with nectar they
make this dance by moving up and down and shake their abdomen to explain the
distance and direction of the flower. However, scientists say that the dance
alone is insignificant. When the bees have found a flower with nectar, in their
way back, they spread an odor. Talya also started to bother the bee so it seemed
like it wanted to sting us. This was a very interesting trip. -Ming and Talya
Dear diary, today we went diving on the ocean when we
found a dolphin; it was the prettiest creature in the whole world! The amazing
thing of the dolphins is that they communicate with sounds like whistles, squeaks,
moans, clicks, and trills because of their lack of vocal cords. These sounds
are produced by the splinter muscle within the blow hole. With these sounds
they create frequencies with which they locate the objects and the sound "bounces"
or echoes, so that is why they called their form of communication echolocation.
They also communicate with body language. Synchronous moves are performed by
2 dolphins, as we saw today! This has been the best trip!

Dear diary, today that we were in Africa, we found a very nice and clever chimpanzee.
Did you know that chimpanzees use visual, auditory, olfactory and tactile signs,
gestures and body language to communicate? Some things that we learned in this
trip that when chimps want to express reassurance they touch, kiss, or embrace
one another. When they touch each other, it can also mean that they want to
play or do something and when they kiss each other they want to show affection.
We saw the chimp was looking at us in a funny way, standing up and then started
to run and scream at us, we discovered that this means that they want us to
know how they feel. This was so amazing. -Ming and Talya
Dear
diary, today, Talya asked me how did animals escaped from the killer waves of
the tsunami. Some tourists had seen some monkeys and offered them some bananas,
normally they would have accepted them but they didn't, they just looked at
them in a confused way, the tourists stated. Some other people said that their
dogs were barking and wouldn't stop for anything and when people stated the
false tsunami, they didn't react in anyway. It is still a mystery, but scientists
state that elephants can detect low frequency sounds that humans can't hear.
It is probable that they can feel the earthquakes or in this case the tsunami.
Some people, most of them tourists, were saved because some elephants broke
their chains and fled to the hills. We think this was very interesting and we
will continue looking for information. -Ming and Talya
