Novosibirsk has its own flag .
Green field means health and natural resources of Siberia ; white colour means
cleanness and Siberian snow. Blue lace symbolizes the river Ob .
Emblem
Silver black lace on a shield symbolizes cross-Siberian railway line. Number
of merlons shows that Novosibirsk is a regional centre. Sables, bow and arrows
are taken from a historical emblem of Siberia
Industry
Novosibirsk is a large highly developed industrial center. There are about
200 small and large enterprises. Production includes machinery, agricultural
machines, textiles, food, drinks, chemicals, building materials, ferrous and
nonferrous metallurgy, radio-electronics, cars and planes, medical equipment.
Education
Novosibirsk is a large centre of education. It's famous abroad for important
discoveries and researches in many fields. Branches of four Academies of
Sciences are situated here. Scientists carry out researches in medicine,
ecology, biology, chemistry, agriculture and others sciences. Several researches
are made in cooperation with foreign collegues. Novosibirsk is a venue for
many scientific conferences and seminars.
There are about 30 institutions of higher education in the city. Specialists
in more than 300 specializations are trained there.
City has more than 200 municipal
schools of general secondary education, nine lyceums and 17 private schools.
Transport
Railway station Novosibirsk Glavny is one of the biggest transport units in
Russia . Every day many passenger and transportation trains go through it.
There are also electrotrains which travel a short distance between towns and
villages of the region.
Tolmachovo is a national and international airport. Several airlines offer
flights within the country and abroad, to such countries as Germany , Israel
, Spain , Cyprus , Turkey and others.
Tickets can be bought at the airport, offices in the city or ordered by phone.
There is a river port in Novosibirsk and you can get to some places by ship.
City has all kinds of transport: buses, trolleybuses, trams, metro.
Metro was built 20 years ago.
Culture
Novosibirsk is large cultural centre. This opinion was formed after successful
performances of our brilliant singers, actors, ballet dancers and exhibitions
of artists in the country and abroad. Novosibirsk has a lot of churches and
cathedrals, beautiful historical buildings, moments. In 1990 the city got
a status of a historical city, though it is not very old.
There are several museums in the city:
Zoological museum;
museum of geology;
museums of Great Patriotic War;
Rerich museum ;
museum of natural history;
museum of West-Siberian railway;
museum of Olympic fame;
museum of regional studies.
Art Gallery is situated in the city centre. You can see paintings of modern
artists and exhibitions of icon painting.
There are several theatres in Novosibirsk
State Academy Opera and Ballet Theatre is famous for its performances not only
in Novosibirsk , but also in Russia and abroad. Other theatres include
"
Krasny Fakel", "Stary Dom",
"
Globe",
"
Theatre of Musical Comedy", the Puppet theatre and a theatre
of young actors.
A popular place for children and adults is Novosibirsk Zoo. It's one of the
biggest Zoos in Russia. Huge new Zoo was built ten years ago. In Novosibirsk
ZOO there are about 4000 animals. More than 120 kinds are brought in the International
Red Book. 180 species are brought in the Red Book of Russia. The collective of
a zoo participates in 32 international programs on preservation of rare and
disappearing kinds of animals. Novosibirsk zoo contacts more than to 100 zoos
of the world. Also he keeps the large educational job. Snow bars is the emblem
of Novosibirsk Zoo. This very beautiful and graceful animal which was saved
only in Siberia on Altai.
More than 700 000 men visit zoo every year.
