About our Area

Bayou View Elementary is located along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Like our partner school in Japan we are located near the water. We are near a bayou (a swampy, slow moving body of water) and just north of the Gulf of Mexico. Our city, Gulfport, is the state's second largest. Our Coast has over 25 miles of sand beach and several barrier islands. In addition to the beach, the Mississippi Coast has many tourist attractions, including a national seashore park, 23 golf courses, sailing, deep sea fishing, casinos, art museums and historic lighthouses.  We have several military bases, a space center and an international deep water port at Gulfport that is North America's second largest handler of  tropical fruit.
