Jigg's Dinner Ingredients

|
Potatoes
Many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have
vegetable gardens and potatoes are one of the most common crops grown. Potatoes are
a common food item for many meals, especially Jigg's Dinner. Typically, the potatoes are
peeled before cooking for this type of meal. The potatoes shown below were grown in Mr.
Lane's vegetable garden. You will notice that there are two types of potatoes in the
photo - white and red. |
 |
 |
Turnip
Turnip is also a vegetable commonly grown in
the vegetable gardens all across Newfoundland and Labrador. |

 |
Carrots
Delicious raw or cooked, carrots were an
essential ingredient in our Jigg's Dinner. |

|

|
Cabbage
Cabbage is also grown locally, and this time
of the year, has large delicious leaves which are used in many recipes including our
Jigg's Dinner. |
