Regatta Day
The Royal St.John's Regatta :
The Royal St.John's Regatta is the oldest organized sporting event in North America. The first regatta was held in 1826 and was held at the harbour. Today it is held at Quidi Vidi Lake in St.John's Newfoundland on the 1st Wednesday of August. Lots of rides , ticket booths and food stalls surround the lake and many rowing teams participate. The regatta can get pretty crowded as up to 50,000 people !! There is more than 250 booths set up along the shoreline of Quidi Vidi Lake each year. The regatta usually starts around 8:00 in the morining until 8:00 in the evening and is brodcasted on most telivision stations in the city. In 1978 , the regatta was visited by Queen Elizabeth II and Price Edward. My favourite thing about the Regatta is the cotton candy and the Ziggy fries. These fries are really popular at the regatta.
