Victoria day


About the Holiday:    

           In Canada we Celebrate the birthday of Queen Victoria on May 24, or May 25 if the 24 of may fall on a Sunday. This holiday was first started in West Canada now known as Ontario in 1845, and then became an national holiday in the year 1901 (the year queen Victoria died.) On the weekend of Victoria is a long weekend and some family's go camping or other recreational activities. Kids are off on the Monday of Victoria day. Fireworks and picnics are also part of celebrating Victoria day as well.

 

Who is Queen Victoria:

Queen Victoria was the ruler of  the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, she was also the Empress of India. She was born in Kensington Palace in London on May 24 1819 and died on 22 January 1901. She was the daughter of  Prince Edward, Duke of Kent.Queen Victoria ascended the throne after the death of her uncle George IV in 1837 when she was only 18 years old. Her reign was almost 64 years which was the longest reign British history.
